Who Do You Call for Coho
Article Date: January 2000
Who do you call for coho salmon fishing out in the salt around Canada's Vancouver Island, north of Seattle? A couple of subscribers have asked us that question recently, and we forwarded it to our network of stringers. Correspondent Paul Marriner came through with the following reply: "Full-service outfitters specializing in fly fishing for silvers (coho) in the saltwater are scarce. Weigh West Marine Resort, located within Clayoquot Sound at the town of Tofino on Vancouver Island's west coast, is one of the first and best. The final fishing option at Weigh West is completely unguided fishing. Simply rent a boat and go out on your own for a half or full day.
"Coho aren't the only sport fish on offer at Weigh West. Rockfish are bass-like species that take the fly well, particularly around the rocky humps near the entrances to Clayoquot Sound favored by the migrant coho. Sea-run cutthroat also patrol the shallows inside the sound and make a fine light-tackle quarry. There is also the chance of hooking a big........(continued)
