The Exotic And Remote Destination Of Greenland

So you think you've fished every exotic or remote destination there is? Well, here's a place you probably haven't tried yet - Greenland. Correspondent Tim Jones filed the report:
"Arni Baldursson of Club Laxa-a. In Iceland has been looming large in the pages of The Angling Report recently. Baldursson has been a central figure in the world of Iceland's Atlantic salmon fishing for some years, and he captured my attention recently by spearheading an (apparently) very successful revitalization of the fishing program on the Kola River on Russia's Kola Peninsula, which will likely be offered next season by both Club Laxa-a and Roxton Bailey Robinson. Arni has also begun to offer trips to Cuba and other far-flung destinations in Europe and South America. But what may be getting lost amidst all the glamour is the opportunity he provides to fish a place where few other anglers have ever ventured, namely, Greenland.
"Given its location in the North Atlantic you'd think Greenland would be home to some wonderful Atlantic salmon rivers. Unfortunately it's not. The fishing here is for Arctic char, that brightly colored first cousin to the brook trout. They are a wonderful-eating fish and abundant enough that you can keep some for the pan without the slightest pang of conscience. According to Arni, most Greenland char run between one and five pounds, but they've caught a few weighing close to 10 pounds. That means they are probably smaller than the average char taken in Alaska, or the native territories of northern Canada. At the Payne River in Nunavut (northern Quebec), I've seen char average around four pounds, with six- to eight-pound specimens common and the occasional fish going 10 to 12 pounds.
