New Way To Access Salmon Pools On The Miramichi River, New Brunswick

Still in eastern Canada and on the subject of Atlantic salmon, Marriner says there is a interesting new web site that makes it easier for anglers to gain access to private waters on the Miramichi River in New Brunswick. He writes:
Many salmon anglers are unaware of what are called day-ticket pools on the Miramichi River. These are pools that, while private, are available for daily rental. Day-ticket pools are perfect for anglers who either don't want to fish through a lodge or can't do so because their favorite facility is all booked up. Day-ticket pools are also a good alternative when the salmon aren't at your lodge or camp. Better to spend a few extra dollars to fish elsewhere than to spend hours casting to rocks.
Until recently, even if you were aware of all the day-ticket waters out there, reserving space on one was a hassle that required calling all the owners to determine availability. Plus, there was no guarantee you would not be fishing crowded waters. Enter Alex Mills, former owner of Old River Lodge near Doaktown, and creator of Atlantic Salmon Access Point (ASAP), a new online broker of day-ticket pools. What he has done is sign up numerous owners of `rentable' water to offer their pools through his online reservation service. Besides allowing users to easily look up day-ticket availabilities, ASAP also allows anglers to buy out all the rods on a pool for exclusive fishing.
Here's how it works. Go to the ASAP web site and click on the river section that interests you. At this time, only a limited number of pools are listed, so I suggest clicking on `List All Pools.'
