Bonefishing In Hawaii Offers Chance To Catch Big Fish

Med Peck has confirmed what we previously reported about bonefishing in Hawaii - namely, there are some big fish in waters near Honolulu and going for them on a stopover basis is doable and enjoyable. Peck fished some flats near Honolulu for several days this past January 11 with Mike Hennessy of Hawaii On The Fly, and he reports catching a 10½-pounder, an 8½-pounder, three six-pounders and a four-pounder. "I stopped in Honolulu with hopes of catching a fish over 10 pounds," he writes. "I got one the first day, and I cast to fish over 12 pounds. I lost other fish after runs of more than 200 yards."
Peck says he used tackle provided him by Mike Hennessy, which was a great convenience. He gives the cost of his fishing as $425 per day based on a booking of three days or more. "There are trophy fish in Hawaii, and you will get multiple shots at them on a trip," he writes. "This is a must stopover for anyone going to Christmas Island.
