"Awesome has become an overused word," Ford writes, "however, awesome really is the only way to describe our fishing experience at Bristol Bay Lodge (BBL). Plus, every comfort we expected from an ultra-premium lodge was there. The equipment, from planes and boats... to rods and reels, was first-rate and clearly well maintained. A high staff-to-guest ratio meant instant service. Nothing was too much trouble: Got a hole in your waders? They will find it and fix it overnight for you. Coffee or tea delivered to your room in the morning? Done...."

Ford goes on to say that BBL raises the bar by providing things even the pickiest angler wouldn't expect: "The staff knows your name and favorite drink the first day, and they have that drink waiting for you as you step off the boat jetty at the end of the day. Despite a sumptuous meal each evening, we were also offered a selection of excellent appetizers - blackened halibut chunks, spare ribs and crab cakes."

Ford tells us that the icing on the cake at BBL is "...all the things that you expect to be routine turn out to be highlights." For example, he says: "Each day you fly to a different river with different guides to fish for a different species with different flies and techniques. We expected the flights to become a bit of a drag. How wrong we were!
