DESCRIPTION OF FISHING
Species Sought/Availability: Salmon, Atlantic - Availability: Average
Char, Arctic - Availability: Average
Trout, Speckled - Availability: Average
Description of Catch Made: Many Atlantic salmon, most in the 10-14 pound range. Hooked one much larger. Main grilse run just starting and numbers of fish increased to "abundant" on last day of trip. I was more interested in larger fish so chose the dates to coincide with the early run of big fish. Arctic char, although not the main targeted species this time of year were a welcome bonus particularly since they were lovely silver fish fresh from the sea that took a fly more readily than usual. Specimens up to eight pounds were caught. Speckled trout, again not the primary species sought, were available up to four pounds in a lake nine minutes flyout from the main lodge.
Type of Fishing: Primarily wading, Flowers River is blessed with a variety of easily waded pools with some more challenging ones mixed in for variety.
Equipment Used: Eight weight rods with floating lines for salmon and char. Four weight rods with floating lines for speckled trout.
Flies Used: Variety of standard wet and dry flies. The dry fly fishing for salmon was excellent.
Description of Hatches:
Water/Weather Conditions: Weather on the whole good for fishing. A few days wind was an issue but not insurmountable. Northern Labrador is notorious for quickly changing weather so anglers are advised to come prepared with warm and waterproof clothing.

SUMMARY REMARKS
Problems on the Trip:
Highlights of the Trip: Excellent guides and camp staff who continously went above and beyond to satisfy the anglers. Hooking many large Atlantic Salmon. The scenery in this location is breathtaking. I am a repeat guest of Flowers and again had an excellent experience.

Would You Recommend This Trip to a Friend? Yes
Why? Flowers River Lodge is a unique lodge featuring the best chance to hook a large (25 pound plus) salmon in Labrador. It is situated in unspoiled beautiful wilderness, and due to its remoteness, its guests are virtually assured of having the river to themselves. The staff are extremely accommodating and work very hard to please their guest. Of course salmon fishing by its very nature is unpredictable so it is nice to have the other species as backup. The owner, Jim Burton has grown up in the outfitting business and keeps that necessary "hands on" control of operations and is constantly looking to improve the experience.
Are There Non-Fishing Activities? No
