DESCRIPTION OF FISHING
Species Sought/Availability: Drum, Red/Redfish - Availability: Abundant
Description of Catch Made: In three days, I caught thirty +/- redfish and one 25 lb. black drum. My largest red was 10 lbs. I lost several MUCH larger, as well as a black drum that was probably 30+ lbs.
Type of Fishing: Sight casting to reds on the flats - fly only.
Equipment Used: Hells Bay boat with fly casting platform and stripping basket. 8 wt Sage fly rod with 9 wt line.
Flies Used: All fish hit the purple and tan Halley's Comet. Shrimp patterns and Pumpkin Pies were not successful on this trip. Purple was THE color for me, but Lefty Kreh had success recently with the Pumpkin Pie as reported in AR.
Description of Hatches:
Water/Weather Conditions: Perfect weather: sunny, light winds, mid 60's. The water was a little stained the first two days because of severe storms before I arrived.
