Giraffe
Fly Tying Lamps

Name: Larry Hartleya
E-mail: ldhartley@hotmail.com
Experience:
Fishing enthusiast entire life and fly fishing since I was 12 years old. Salt water flats experience in Mexico, Bahamas, Belize, and Florida. Fresh water experience in all Western States, Alaska, Arkansas, and Missouri. Extensive experience fishing ponds in Texas.
Product Being Tested:
Giraffe ISO96 Fly Tying Lamp.
Snapshot of your experience with products of this sort:
My fly tying is accomplished in a very dark, wood-paneled room. I have tried various models to achieve satisfactory lighting in that location, but have been unhappy with the results from all.
Date of Test:
August 19, 20, and 21 of 2005
Place of Test:
Tying location is on my ranch in East Texas.
Test Condition:
The room that I use for fly tying is especially dark. The walls and ceiling are made of very old, very dark. stained-pine lumber, which was locally milled many years ago. The room only has one small window and no overhead lighting. It represents a difficult tying environment...in fact, as far as indoor enclosures, I doubt that any would be more difficult or less suited to fly tying....but its all I have for that purpose.
Relevant related equipment or products:
I use standard tying materials and flies ranging generally from size 4 to size 16. I use the flies mostly in my ponds which are located on the same property.
Your experience with the product:
The experience begins with assembly of the product, which is very easily accomplished without directions. Really, about all it took me to evaluate the product was to set it on my bench and turn it on. The light provided is outstanding. Under tying conditions, no shadows or dark areas are present. It is also very easy to maneuver and position the light where needed. In addition to the excellent lighting, the magnification aid is just remarkable. It is extremely functional and just adds significantly to the tying experience.
Qualities you liked about the product:
The ease of use is terrific. The lighting provided in a very dark setting was simply the best I have ever found. The magnification aid was surprisingly beneficial.
Qualities you didn't liked about the product:
None. It fits my needs perfectly.
Summary Comments
This is a great product. The only thing about it I would be uncertain to evaluate at this time is the lifetime of the product (bulb) and the cost/availability of replacement bulbs. With the functionality provided, I am certain to go through the lifetime of a bulb, because I will use this product extensively.
