Did you know you can fish for dorado in Bolivia? These fish are found in Amazonian rivers, along with peacock bass, piraruku, paku and piranha. Plus, there’s Amazonian catfish that can run upwards of 80 pounds.

A company called Hunt In Europe is offering jungle fishing trips for these species. I am familiar with Hunt In Europe’s principal Sergio Dimitrijevic through a sister publication on big game hunting and have always received positive reports about Dimitrijevic’s trips. Dimitrijevic says anglers take a charter flight from the Bolivian capitol of Santa Cruz to the inner Amazon where a local professional guide accompanies them on the water. Boats are traditional vessels operated by native Indians. Depending on what kind of fishing the angler wants and how much he can rough it, accommodations are either in small chalets along the river or in tent camps. The cost of a seven-day trip with five days of fishing is $4,900 per person with a minimum of two anglers.
