Subscriber Oscar Martinez questions whether Bill Cenis was right last month to say the Bob Marshall Wilderness Area in Montana can be accessed by air. Cenis said that in connection with his report on some horseback trips into the Bob offered by Bob Marshall Wilderness Ranch. Cenis replies: Mr. Martinez is correct in that there is no fly-in to the specific area of the Bob that BMWR services, that being the area of the South Fork of the Flathead River. However, there is fly-in available to another part of the Bob namely, into Schaffer Meadows and the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. The company to call is Red Eagle Aviation in Kalispell, Montana. I spoke with Flathead National Forest Spotted Bear headquarters and with Red Eagle Aviation and they both confirmed the above information. Red Eagle charges $350 one-way to Schaffer Meadows. They sometimes coordinate with Glacier Wranglers guide service for angling fly-ins.
