Subscriber Jason Merenda has very good things to say about Jupiter, Florida, guide Scott Hamilton (516-745-2402; www.flyfishingextremes .com). He says he has fished with Hamilton repeatedly over the last six years, most recently targeting spinner sharks with him this past February. He writes:
“I recommend Scott Hamilton because he can put you on a variety of offshore and near-shore species. He really knows the waters around Jupiter and what the fish do seasonally. I have fished with him repeatedly for the last six years and every trip has been interesting. We have done everything from teasing up sailfish in the winter to chasing false albies in the summer. In between, we have chased dolphin and snook. The highlight of the winter and spring season is the opportunity to go for spinner sharks. They are the most athletic fish you can catch in shallow water. They eat a fly on top and run for hundreds of yards. They get airborne in a fantastic fashion. They leave the water completely, corkscrewing at the same time. I have a Tibor Pacific that I use and the backing has marks at the 100-yard and 300-yard distances. I can assure you that other than a large tuna, nothing will get you into the backing like a spinner shark.”
Postscript: Merenda gives the cost of his latest two-day outing with Hamilton as $1,200.
