My 21 year old son drove 13 hours virtually non-stop after finishing his finals at Wake Forest to join me on this trip. He got to the hotel at 3 am before our first day, and by 8:30 or so the same morning he was not well rested but he was hooked into a big boy. After two jumps, he went on a screaming run that was vaporizing the 250 yards or so of backing I had on the reel. Ben started the boat to chase him down, but he was still taking line. Unfortunately, when he was still about 200 yards out, he got us wrapped around an old submerged channel marker. Before we could get if off of there, he ran again, and the friction cut through the backing. So, we lost the fish, the brand new fly line, and almost all the backing! It was a pretty exciting couple of minutes to start the trip, but unfortunately it was also the only fish we hooked. - Would you recommend this trip to a friend?:
