  • Highlights of the Trip:
This is a wonderful, cheap flats fishing trip with great chances for bonefish and permit. This was the first trip to this area in the last 3 years for me that I did not at least have a permit on. We stayed at Casa de Suenos, previously Villa la Guacamaya, which has 4 rooms. Our two ocean front rooms shared a kitchen where we cooked most of our meals. The guides furnished lunch. The Casa was great with new ownership this year and a pleasant couple (Nick and Vickie) that managed the place. The Casa is about 5 miles north of Xcalak, where we drove each morning to meet our guides, Victor Castro and his son, Andres. Victor is an experienced guide but Andres still needs some work. Victor used a secondary guide with him each day, Moy, who primarily went with me that permitted Victor to work with the novice flats fisherman who fished with me. This allowed me to wander into places I knew, but most guides don't, and to catch the most bonefish in a week that I ever have. The best day for me was 31 landed bonefish, with other days of 13 and 14. We only fished permit hard for a few hours one morning but had multiple shots at several groups from small to large, but no eaters.
